Cultivable Furniture

Olle Sahlqvist, recipient of the Svenskt Trä Scholarship, is an alumnus of the Bachelor's program in Design at HDK-Valand, graduating in 2022. His winning entry is a chair made using mycelium – the root-like network beneath mushrooms. Olle describes the chair as a cultivable piece of furniture that leaves no carbon footprint.

“Soon we’ll be growing all our furniture at home, just like pastries rising, chairs and tables will emerge from the corners,” reads part of the jury’s statement.
